What is a Local Authority (PBT)?
A Local Authority (Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan / PBT) is the third tier of government in Malaysia, operating under the supervision of respective State Governments. It plays a vital role in managing local governance, urban development and public services within designated city, municipal or district boundaries.
Local Authorities are primarily established under the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171), which provides the legal framework for administration, enforcement and delivery of municipal services.
