            About Dataran Merdeka
Dataran Merdeka, or Merdeka Square, is a historic site in Kuala Lumpur that holds great significance in Malaysia’s history. It was here that the Union Jack was lowered, and the Malaysian flag was raised for the first time on August 31, 1957, marking the country’s independence from British rule. Today, Dataran Merdeka is a vibrant public space surrounded by iconic buildings and monuments.

            The square itself is a beautifully landscaped green space, featuring well-manicured lawns, flower beds, and the 100-meter-high flagpole, one of the tallest in the world.

            Visit the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, located at the southern end of the square. The gallery features exhibits on the history and development of Kuala Lumpur, including a spectacular scale model of the city.

            If you visit on August 31st, you can witness the Merdeka Parade, a grand celebration of Malaysia’s independence. The parade features marching bands, military displays, and cultural performances, attracting thousands of spectators.
